National Hoopfest at DeMatha

Isaiah Arnold, staff writer

This weekend is always a big weekend for basketball in the DMV area. It’s Hoopfest week where DeMatha will play two good teams in John Marshall and Archbishop Ryan in front of a packed out crowd.

DeMatha, who is officially 2-1, will be looking to get two more wins from this weekend. John Marshall is the 2022 VHSL Class 2A State Champions and Top 10 Nationally Ranked in Public Schools. They are led by 4-star forward Dennis Parker Jr., who is committed to North Carolina State University. John Marshall also has a lot of good players who will all be looking to get to the basket so look to see a lot of that on Saturday. On Sunday they will play Archbishop Ryan, also a very talented team especially their Junior big Thomas Sorber. Sorber holds big offers from Georgetown, Maryland, Virginia Tech, Penn State and many more.

Both teams are built and ready to compete with our Stags. But as you know, our Stags are prepared. Senior Cris McElveen was asked how he feels going into this weekend and talking with Cris, he said “I am confident in the team and in the coaching staff, and that we will stick together and come out 2-0.” DeMatha are ready to compete so come out and support your Stags this weekend.
