This past season, DeMatha’s linebacker core was marvelous. The group was headlined by seniors Tyler Faison, Antonio (Rock) Greene, and Larrell Sharp, along with juniors Noah Chambers and Jermaine Minnis. The group’s coach, Jamal Kea, even went on record saying that this is one of the best groups he has ever coached.
Greene and Faison were middle linebackers who rocked numbers 35 and 15. They were vibrant and helpful players to not only to the linebacker group but to the whole team. They spoke about how their senior season was a success for them but wished they had finished the season on a higher note with a championship. They feel as if the next group of linebackers are going to be some dogs and are going to get the job done next year.
Our do-it-all linebacker who also played safety and running back was Larrell Sharp, who wore number 18. Sharp was a very important piece to the linebacker core and team. He transferred to DeMatha from Archer High School in Georgia. He was a big piece to the defense and special teams, making big plays on the special teams unit and big stops on the defensive side of the ball.
Sharp put on record how being a transfer gave him an extra motive and made him want to play harder and earn his roles on the team.
Lastly but certainly not least star junior linebackers Noah Chambers and Jermaine Minnis served as big-play linebackers and are the best you can get. Chambers and Minnis came in during the summer and, by most accounts, were some of the hardest workers the coaching staff has ever seen. They came in and competed and got big roles on the team.
Chambers asserted his dominance out of the gate and was named starting linebacker while Minnis worked his way up and was named a starter for some games as well as a key rotator during every game. Both backers have racked up more than 10 major D1 offers each from schools such as Maryland, Syracuse, Indiana, Boston College, and many more. These two are ecstatic about next season and are on record saying they are ready for their ring season.
