Winter sports will be underway next month, and the DeMatha hockey team will be practicing for the season in late October to early November. Junior Ronin Forgarty is excited about the upcoming season.”I’m super excited for the season to start. We have a great group of players. I can’t wait to see how we play,” he says.
Ronan wants to work on his gap control as a specific skill he’ll focus on this season.”Taking away time and space is super important, especially as a defense-man,” he states. His personal goal is to “be a role model for the younger guys who are just starting their DeMatha hockey experience” and to “always make myself available for my teammates on and off the ice. Having a good relationship with your team off the ice is just as crucial as having a good relationship on the ice.”
He also applauds the coaching on the team, expressing, “We have top-notch coaching at DeMatha. They have an abundance of knowledge and information that all players should value.”
Senior Jack Emling is also ecstatic for the season. “I’m really looking forward to this season, we have a good group of boys and a lot of skill if we use it we can go far,” he said.
Jack also sees an improvement in chemistry, stating, “We have a core group that have played together the past few years and we are going to build off of that.” He says the thing he will miss most about hockey is the competition. “It feels different playing for my high school. I feel like I’m playing for something bigger and just hanging out with the team.”
Practices are underway and the season will begin in just a couple of weeks.
