DeMatha Catholic High School continues to impact college football with its long list of alumni. Several former Stags have made significant impacts at the collegiate and pro levels. The legacy of Stags in college football has continued with underclassmen making an early impact for their teams.
Terez Davis ’24 is a freshman offensive tackle at the University of Maryland. Davis has seen the field early for the Terps and has played a lot in crucial moments of games. In a recent win over the USC Trojans, Davis stepped in during the second half and contributed greatly to the comeback win.
Dante Lovett ’23 is a sophomore cornerback at Virginia Tech. An immediate impact was made by Lovett in the Hokies secondary. In his freshman year he played in all 13 games. This year Lovett has made a name for himself, being seen as a lockdown corner as he’s made many crucial plays on defense.
Jason Moore ’23 is a redshirt freshman defensive end at Ohio State. Moore has brought size and power up front for the Buckeyes and played in two games as a true freshman. Now going into his second season, Moore looks to play a larger role in the defensive line. This season he has made a few tackles and looks to continue making plays at the highest level.
Joshua Simmons ’24 is a true freshman defensive tackle at the University of Maryland. Simmons is 6-7, 280 pounds and was a preferred walk-on. It is uncommon for freshman walk-ons to get quality game reps, but this has not been the case for Simmons. He has played in a handful of games and has shown his playmaking ability and will continue to play a larger role in the Terps defense.
Tree Babalade ’23 is a sophomore offensive tackle at South Carolina. Babalade had his first start vs #1 Georgia his freshman year and was dominant all game. After the impressive performance he remained a starter and has continued to play a large role in the Gamecocks’ offensive line.
These are only a few of the Stags currently on collegiate rosters and there are many more making impacts for their team. Joshua Simmons said, “DeMatha has prepared my teammates and I for college with great coaching, college style practices, and competitive teammates.”
Jamie O’Connor, an assistant dean and the football team’s kicking coach, said, “All of those guys are very hard workers in the classroom and on the field.” DeMatha continues to help student-athletes achieve their goals with high level coaching on and off the field.
