Homecoming may be over, but there is still plenty for the DeMatha community to look forward to. Homecoming 2024 was a huge success, and brought in many guests, with not only DeMatha students but also Seton and other schools’ students in attendance last Saturday night. SGA member and Senior Rep. Earl Gilliam said that this year was “the most sold hoco since before Covid.” The DeMatha Student Government, led by President Jackson Ross and VP Hayden Walsh, intend to continue this success with some more events in the near future.
Walsh said that although things tend to slow down a bit right after Homecoming, there will be some exciting upcoming dates to mark in your calendar. There will be a tag day next Tuesday, October 29. Spirit Week brought out some amazing outfits and unique jerseys, and the tag day approaching will be another chance to show out with the latest fashion. Walsh also mentioned “an auction coming up in November similar to the one last year.” This auction is a fundraiser event that “serves as an opportunity for people to buy Christmas presents.”
Another important event coming up is the DeMatha vs St. John’s football game this Saturday. It is the Cadets’ homecoming game and is a huge WCAC rivalry game. The game is at St. John’s, and our football team needs the student body to show up in full force to represent the Stags when they face off with the Cadets.
Finally, the SGA is currently working on hosting a winter pep rally, highlighting the winter sports teams, including basketball and hockey. The pep rallies are a fun time for students (and teachers) to take a break from schoolwork and enjoy the obstacle courses, sports skill games, and infectious energy.
