The DeMatha Stags varsity football team has proven to be a dominant force in the 2025 season, posting an impressive 8-1 record in the highly competitive Washington Catholic Athletic Conference (WCAC). Head coach Bill McGregor, a seasoned leader in high school football, has led the team through a season marked by standout performances and decisive victories, establishing DeMatha as a top contender in the league and nationally.
Following a loss to Archbishop Spalding in the season opener, DeMatha bounced back with a winning streak that featured several blowouts, including a 35-7 victory over Good Counsel followed a week later by a 31-15 win over St. John’s. The team has consistently put up strong numbers on both sides of the ball, showcasing their well-rounded roster. Offensive standouts, including Denzel Gardner, Bud Coombs, and Lavar Keys, have helped the Stags maintain high scoring games, while the defense, led by Noah Chambers, Jermaine Minnis, and Jacob Wallace, has kept opposing teams at bay with multiple games won by margins of 28 points or more.
Now, as they prepare for an intense playoff matchup against St. John’s, the Stags are focused and determined to defend their home turf. St. John’s has also had a strong season, making this playoff face-off a highly anticipated and competitive showdown. With their eyes set on a conference championship, the Stags are ready to bring the momentum from their standout season into the postseason and continue their legacy in WCAC football.
