DeMatha’s JV basketball team got off to a strong start last week when they faced the Carroll Lions. They looked like they were very ready for this team after what a game which featured many highlight plays for both teams.
The Stags had a starting five consisting of Nasir Wilson, Donovan Wright, Jonathan Farley, Major Jones, and James Pace. They came out hot and had an early 8-0 lead. Carroll got some buckets but at the end of the first quarter the score was 23-8. DeMatha made some substitutions and the reserves proved to be more of the same for DeMatha. They were still getting defensive stops and scoring on the other end. DeMatha went into halftime up by 25. Wilson had a tough move against the defender with the shot clock winding down, make the jump shot at the buzzer, and the crowd went wild.
Going into the 2nd half, DeMatha had all the momentum and they kept on bringing the pressure to Carroll, ultimately starting the season with a perfect 1-0 record in conference games.
