DeMatha Catholic High School is the 20th ranked basketball team in the country as of January 15, 2025. Last Saturday marked their return after Christmas break. They faced off against Jackson-Reed (D.C.) in a game where they showed excellent team work and got the job done with a winning score of 69-55. This game was Ashton Meeks’ through and through. The junior recorded 26 points on 83% shooting from the field. The following day, the team took on conference opponent Bishop Ireton. The Stags won in convincing fashion by a score of 74-58.
On Tuesday night earlier this week, the Stags faced off against long-time rival St. John’s. It was a clash between the 20th and 25th ranked teams in the land and the matchup didn’t disappoint at all.
The two teams traded clutch buckets back and forth. With less than 30 seconds to go, St. John’s guard Devin Toatley hit a game-tying three pointer to send the game into overtime. St. John’s ultimately pulled away with the win, 78-74.
Despite the loss, the Stags played a sound game and the future is extremely bright for them.
