Fr. Albert, respected figure head in the DeMatha community and well-loved Trinitarian by students and faculty alike, was inducted as DeMatha’s president on January 1. He will be ceremonially inducted on the 28th of the month.
After Fr. James announced he would step down as president due to health concerns at the end of the calendar year, Fr. Albert was asked by the Trinitarian Order to step into the role in his place. His responsibilities went from teaching lessons and grading tests to being the head of the Trinitarian mission and managing four departments of the school.
When asked how the transition from teacher to president affected him, he said it was a “major shift in mentality” going from teacher to president in such a short time.
Later when asked how this change in roles affected his teaching, he said, “My heart will always be the heart of a teacher. I love teaching young men about God and how to love Him, and with my new position in the school I’m still able to do that.”
At the end of the interview Fr. Albert mentioned the “Campus Master Plan,” which will focus on expanding the campus, improvements in the DeMatha community, and more. Once he has truly settled into his new rule, Fr. Albert plans to go around the DeMatha community asking students and faculty alike, “What do we need as a school?” He will continue to display his caring and helpful nature despite no longer being in the classroom.
