It’s been two years since DeMatha has put on the full DeMatha Experience event.
The event that was started in the 2022-2023 school year was an attempt to create more school spirit. It is a week-long, no-school-work, week of games, competition, and activities. Some of the activities include dodgeball, Madden, rowing, arts & crafts, and an obstacle coarse in front of the whole school. Some of the other activities include an alumni coming back to talk about college, a faculty speaker, and some student speakers. Senior Mark Beasley said, “Dodgeball was my favorite part of the activities and I look forward to doing it again.”
Underclassmen also get to pick classes they will be taking for the following year. Sophomore RJ Thurston had to settle for an abbreviated DeMatha Experience last year, but still enjoyed the event. “My experience was very good,” RJ said. “I loved all the games that we did. It was good teamwork and participation. The teachers, they showed like a different side of themselves, which was really good to the students to see and it was a good time.”
The DeMatha experience was held in the 2023-2024 year put was cut short due to snow days. The event is expected to make its return in February.
