The Black Student Union (BSU) at DeMatha is preparing for an impactful Black History Month this February. At the most recent meeting, the BSU announced its plans to celebrate the history, culture, and contributions of Black Americans, alongside acts of service that will engage the entire school community.
“We have big plans to exemplify the importance of our Black history and create an engaging experience for people in the school,” said BSU President Nicholas DeLeon. “This month is about educating, honoring, and empowering our community, and we’re excited to involve everyone in meaningful ways.”
Members of the BSU are encouraged to participate in various activities, including service projects that will benefit local organizations, along with educational events to bring greater awareness of Black history. These initiatives are meant to inspire pride and unity among students, while also serving as an opportunity to give back to the wider community.
As the month unfolds, students can expect a series of events, discussions, and interactive experiences aimed at deepening the understanding of Black history and its relevance in today’s world.
