The DeMatha Stags are traveling to Philadelphia on Friday night to face the Roman Catholic Cahillites at 7 p.m. inside Widener University’s Quick Stadium. The Stags are preparing to improve to 3-0 on the season.
The Cahillites are 2-1 on the season, winning their last two games after losing their first. The Stags are 2-0 on the season after beating two Philadelphia teams already. The Stags have a recent history of dramatic games played against the Cahillites, winning 25-23 after 5 overtimes in 2023 and winning 49-12 in 2024.
Senior wide receiver Lavar Keys, a key part in the Stags’ offense, shares that preparation has been about focus: “Staying focused, another week, another powerful team, everyone locked in and focused on the game.”
Keys has played an important role in this Stags offense, and really makes a big difference in every game he plays.
Coach Marvin Brown shares the importance of battling in the trenches: “Gotta be solid upfront, a complete game as an offensive line. So if we handle business up front, I believe it will be a pretty good game.”
Both teams are powerhouse football programs. The outcome of this game can affect momentum moving forward through the season. If the Stags want to win this game, they need to correct their mistakes from previous games, stay disciplined, and rely on the chemistry they have with one another.
Fans should expect an intense match up between these powerhouse schools.
Addendum: The Stags defeated Roman Catholic 44-7 Friday evening.
