As a new year begins, DeMatha is hosting their annual Club Fair this Thursday morning during homeroom. As the event approaches, the build-up of excitement increases each day. There will be plenty of options to choose from as DeMatha showcases the variety of clubs it offers.
DeMatha gives students chances to express their talents, interests, or get out of their comfort zone through clubs. These clubs are where students get opportunities to go on their own journey of life to find interests that suits them the most. The Club Fair offers a chance to try new things within the Stag community with your brothers of DeMatha.
There will be numerous clubs on display covering topics related to sports, anime, video games, finance, and more. All the available clubs will have a stand in the Original Gym during the homeroom period. Club leaders will be behind their stands, explaining what their clubs are about and offering quick summaries about what their clubs will be doing in the future. Each club will also have a teacher advisor monitoring.
In addition to offering great experiences, one benefit of clubs is the opportunity to build community. Ayden Williams, a member of the Black Student Union, says, “BSU has helped me grow with my brothers and has taught me a lot about the college experience.”
Marcel Otim, president of the African American Club, said, “Just being around my peers and brothers creates good interactions. We form relationships and most importantly we make life-long memories.”
Jonathan Farley is a new member of the Chess Club member. “Even though I was a beginner in chess the members of the club accepted me and taught me how to play,” Jonathan said. “Now I can proudly say that I know how to play chess.”
