DeMatha has a great basketball team, but it’s not born out of luck. DeMatha players have a strong work ethic and it shows.
Students wanting to join the team may be curious how to get in shape for practice. Junior Jon Farley was on the JV team last winter. He says, “Just run your mile and you’ll be good.” Making sure you have stamina is just as important as being able to make a shot.
Farley’s teammate, sophomore Isa Camp, reiterates how important hard work is. “You can’t expect to get the fruits of labor without the work.” If it’s your dream to play, you need your aspirations to keep you going and motivated with constant hard work.
Junior Donovan Wright split time between the varsity and JV teams las year. He says if you want to get through the trial process, focus is key. “The hardest thing about practice is staying locked in and focused on both sides of the ball, talking on defense, and all the little things.”
These players don’t play around when it comes to dedication. If a student wants to be on this team, they need to put in a lot of hard work.
Open gym for prospective basketball players has begun, with workouts on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 3:30 to 5:15 p.m. Be sure to have all your athletic forms turned in through ATS before showing up.
