DeMatha Catholic High School’s Homecoming Spirit Week, planned by DeMatha’s Student Government Association, has officially come to an end. Last week was filled with exciting activities, pep rallies, and dress-down days. We at the Stagline felt it appropriate to offer a Homecoming Spirit Week-in-review.
The DeMatha community gave very positive feedback regarding Spirit Week. Sophomore JT Felicio said, “Spirit week was very good and added a conversational topic to discuss in class. I look forward to future occasions of it.”
The themes for the first two days of the week involved schools and sports. The week began with Jersey Day on Monday. Students came to school with all kinds of different jerseys, representing their favorite teams or players. Tuesday was College Gear Day, when students represented their favorite colleges with hoodies, t-shirts, pants, and more.
Wednesday was Twin Day. Students coordinated to match outfits. Some students wore the same colors, while some went as far as wearing the same exact clothes!
Thursday was DeMatha Gear Day; students wore their school swag proudly. Thursday was also the annual BSU Bonfire with Elizabeth Seton High School, which there was a lot of anticipation for due to the event being cancelled last year. Students enjoyed meeting new people and socializing with each other. Sophomore Alex Adebiyi said, “The bonfire was a great addition to an already spectacular week. I enjoyed spending time with classmates.”
Friday was Black Out-themed. The pep rally had the whole school hyped up for the homecoming football game. Sophomore Channing Branch stated, “I liked the pep rally and had a lot of fun, but they should mix [it] up with different activities.” DeMatha’s varsity football team defeated Riverdale Baptist 43-6 to continue their undefeated season, improving to 5-0, and DeMatha’s student section was absolutely electric.
In conclusion, DeMatha’s spirit week, coordinated by the Student Government Association and the BSU, was a huge success. The community looks forward excitedly to the school’s next spirit week.
