The DeMatha Walk-a-Thon is an annual event that raises money for a charitable organization or cause. During the school day on Wednesday, October 15, the whole school will get out of class and walk the immediate Hyattsville neighborhood. In previous years, the Walk-a-Thon has supported MOMcares and kids in foster care.
As Fr. Josh, one of the members of Campus Ministry, explains, “The Walk-a-Thon has been around since 2003 helping local organizations around our community. This year we are changing it up to help our own brothers in medical need to support them financially and spiritually.” Sophomore Jerome DeBrew says, “It’s a cool event with lots of people to help our brothers in need, and we get out of class and get some exercise in.”
On Friday, October 10 there will be a tag day in preparation for the Walk-a-Thon next Wednesday. A $3 donation is required to participate in the tag day, but a greater donation would be appreciated.
The Walk-a-Thon is the start of Campus Ministry’s busy fall and holiday season with many other events on the horizon.
