As the week comes to an end, we have 12 DeMatha seniors taking a service trip. This is a four-day trip to Camden, New Jersey, where students will complete tasks to get service hours.
The students left after school on Thursday, October 9 along with two chaperones, Ms. Tatnall and Mr. Gill. They will come back Sunday, October 12. On this service trip, these seniors will be learning a few things. The first is Catholic Social Teaching: they will be learning about social issues that are going on in the world. The students will also witness the poverty many people in the Camden area experience in their daily lives. This service trip is all about helping those in need.
During their four-day trip, the 12 seniors will be living in the Romero Center and will be split into two groups for their service. This helps them get different experiences while helping the community. Ms. Bright, who coordinates many service trips like this one throughout the year, says this is a good opportunity for them to experience different environments.
Mr. Gill is looking forward to experiencing the trip as a chaperone. “I will gain a new sense of renewal from this trip,” he said.
This trip is a great way to experience new things outside of DeMatha and outside of the DMV area in general.
