The wrestling team has begun their off-season workouts in preparation for the winter season. The first meet is scheduled for early December at McDonough School in Baltimore County. The Stags are looking to start hot after last season finishing 3-4 within the conference.
Sophomore Channing Branch wrestled for the first time last year as a freshman. “I set high expectations for myself knowing I still had a lot to learn. I earned a 4-2 conference record, only losing to The Heights and St. Mary’s Ryken.” Branch is very excited for what he and his team will accomplish this upcoming season.
Fellow sophomore Winston Pepin is joining the wrestling team for the first time this year after playing freshman football and rowing on the novice crew team last year. “It’s been good fun and allows me to get some good work in. I appreciate all the coaches and wrestlers for welcoming me. It has been a great experience so far.”
The Stags have two returners that placed in the state tournament last year. Ansar Kmt and Dexter Kane are both juniors and will bring experience and leadership to the team this year. In last winter’s WCAC Championships, the team finished third. After placing well last year, the ultimate goal is to be first in the WCAC this February.
The Stags need to start hot this year. The first challenge will be McDonough on December 5 and 6. The first conference duel is scheduled for December 10 against The Heights and St. John’s. These first obstacles are crucial for the Stags to start fast and have a successful season.
