Getting on the baseball team at DeMatha is no easy task. What’s even harder is working through the struggles one faces while on the team. Many players talked about how they push through these struggles as they prepare for the upcoming spring season.
Blake Wentworth was a freshman on the varsity team last year. He says the key to his success has been to “just listen to the coach and learn from the older guys.” Having experienced coaches and skilled players around you offers a tremendous advantage.
Sophomore Dominic Calabrese says, “My advice is to have a good attitude and try your hardest even if you aren’t performing your best.” When players are having bad days, they shouldn’t let that get to their head; it’s beneficial to have mistakes to learn from.
Freshman Jackson Young tried to keep a positive attitude through the highs and lows of the season. “There are always going to be good days and bad days and you just gotta realize how to react to the good days and the bad days.”
The baseball team will begin their season in March. They are looking to improve upon a disappointing quarterfinal exit from the WCAC playoffs last spring.
