Alabama running back Brian Robinson Jr. was drafted in the third round by the Washington Commanders in this year’s NFL draft.

Justin Martin, a senior at Long Reach High School in Columbia, reacted to Washington’s running back room after the draft. “I think we got a talented RB in a late round that should do everything that Antonio Gibson struggles with,” Martin said.

After a strong preseason, Robinson was believed by some NFL front office members to be Washington’s RB1 going into Week 1 of the season. But on August 29, Robinson was shot twice in an attempted robbery. Eleven days later, Robinson was seen in the locker room walking without crutches and on September 15 he posted a video of himself doing drills, which is great news. The Commanders placed the third-round pick on IR, making Robinson eligible for a Week 5 return.

The Commanders are confident in their other backs, Antonio Gibson and J.D. McKissic, to lead the backfield as Robinson recovers. Senior Darian Simpkins has confidence in Washington’s running back room without Brian Robinson Jr. “The RB room will see immense success considering that Antonio Gibson will get more touches,” Simpkins said, adding that he believes Gibson is “clearly the more deserving RB1” anyway.
