The Injury that Scared us all

Damar Hamlin is a professional NFL athlete that currently plays for the Buffalo Bills. On January 2nd during Monday Night Football, Hamlin suffered an injury that caused him to suffer cardiac arrest and collapse the the ground. It got to the point where medical assistance had to give him CPR. Players on the field and the word going around was that he died in the process and that the trainers had to give him CPR for nine minutes to bring him back. He was later brought to the hospital through an ambulance where he was later in critical condition. He woke up on January 5th and was holding hands with his family and friends. Even though his injury is still very serious he was able to be transported from the Cincinnati Medical Center to a hospital back in Buffalo. 

Robert Griffin Walker lll, a junior at DeMatha said that his reaction to the injury was “I was a little shocked and scared because I used to play football and some of my friends play football, and it’s just realizing that can happen to anybody.”

Tristan Hunter, a sophomore at DeMatha said that “What happened to him was sad and that people are quitting football because they are scared it will happen to them. They don’t understand that it is a rare injury.”

Denzel Gardner, a sophomore at DeMatha and also the varsity footballs quarterback said, “It’s crazy what happened because it’s shocking because he plays football but it didn’t affect me personally, Imma just do me.”
