DeMatha brings new batch of interns this year
October 24, 2017
The intern program at DeMatha allows young, new instructors to develop their teaching skills. Some might already have it all planned out: get an internship at DeMatha, become a teacher at DeMatha, and continue on that career path in the future. Others, not so much. Many interns view an internship as an opportunity to explore future possible career paths. Mr. Andrew Eck, Mr. Michael Fazio, Mr. Ben Flori, and Mr. William Wright are this year’s DeMatha interns.
Andrew Eck decided to become an intern at DeMatha because he wants to do the same as his inspiring English teacher since he was a senior. Singing the National Anthem at the Naval Academy stadium at a DeMatha football game is Andrew’s favorite moment at DeMatha. His favorite food is jerk chicken with rice and peas (Jamaican food).
Michael Fazio decided to become an intern at DeMatha because he wants to give back to the school, and he also wants to see if teaching would be something he likes. Michael recalls his favorite moment at DeMatha being Mr. Carroll walking around his British Literature class imitating the “Chanticleer” from the Canterbury Tales. Pupusas are his favorite food.
Ben Flori decided to become an interim at DeMatha because he wants to give back to the DeMatha community the same way it gave to him during his four years at the school. Ben’s favorite moment at DeMatha was going undefeated in soccer his senior year and winning that championship, and participating in the celebrations that took part afterwards with his teammates. His favorite food is homemade, hand rolled pasta from his mom.
William Wright decided to become an intern at DeMatha because he wants to come back to the school, while also continuing to teach. Traveling in the bus on the music trips, playing the trumpet in the concert, and relaxing after the competition by going to the beach and hanging with friends were William’s favorite moments at DeMatha. Italian dishes, especially spaghetti, is his favorite food.
