Around 9 pm on January 30th, an American Airlines flight carrying 60 passengers collided with an army helicopter, near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, sending both the plane and helicopter down into the Potomac River. There are 27 bodies recovered and as of now there are no survivors from the helicopter or plane.
When Kaya Dengel ’25 was asked about his reaction to the crash, he said, “I was super scared! I definitely thought it was an inside job by the Illuminati and lizard people. Alex Jones predicted this would happen 3 months earlier so we shouldn’t really be surprised. If it wasn’t lizard people, I think it was aliens.” He also thinks we should “improve air traffic safety and we should come together for the innocent people mourning there lost ones. We have to make sure nothing like this ever happens again.”
As of today (Feb. 7), CBS News stated that the Army helicopter had a particular safety system turned off. Military aircraft are allowed to fly with some safety systems off. Senator Ted Cruz of Texas expressed his opinion on the accident saying,”unless there was a compelling national security reason for turning it off, that does not seem justified and in this instance, this was a training mission so there was no national security reason for ADS-B to be turned off.”
All 67 people on both aircrafts have sadly been declared deceased. President Trump has stated his administration will improve air traffic control systems after the crash.
