DeMatha Experience was held for the second time in school history last week. It is a 4-day week that consists of activities, guest speakers and some good ole’ fashioned fun! Some of the activities included are dodgeball, rowing, arts & crafts, Jenga, creative writing seminar, ping pong, Gaga ball and Connect 4. Even though there was no classroom instruction taking place, you still could’ve picked up a thing or two during the week. Each day DeMatha brought in alumni that have had successes in their career paths, to come tell their life stories after high school. Providing phenomenal advice as to what they had to do to get where they’re at now and their plans for the future.
Another day was more of a sit-and-listen type of day. Every student attended a session about how to save lives using medical equipment and the different techniques to use by Mrs. Wendy Norris, who is a longtime athletic trainer at the school. Students also attended a session lead by current Director of Student Activities, Mr. Scott Sicko, who talked to the students about the importance of investing and the benefits of starting early. Junior Derek Santos had this to say about his overall experience during the week. There were special guests from the Maryland gambling hotline organization. They listed out statistics about gambling and told their life stories about how gambling ruined their lives, but also how they recovered and stopped their problem.
“DeMatha Experience 2025 was a great time for a bunch of competitiveness and building the brotherhood bond with my friends. I can’t wait to see what is in store for DeMatha Experience 2026.”
To wrap-up each day the school hosted class-level Mass. Senior Mark Beasley commented on his overall experience. “It was great getting back to it. Of course, my favorite part was dodgeball.” Overall, many students and faculty sat the week was a huge success and DeMatha looks to not only repeat it again next year, but to take it to the next level.
