This past weekend, DeMatha Catholic High School hosted its own HoopFest from Saturday to Sunday. It hosted games like Sidwell Friends vs Paul VI, Bullis vs IMG Academy, and the main event: DeMatha vs Archbishop Wood.
Archbishop Wood, led by Jalil Bethea (No. 7 in the 2024 class), was seeking to bounce back after their 73-70 defeat the prior day. That thought only remained a thought, however, as the Stags demolished them 75-51.
Sophomore Ashton Meeks had an outstanding performance with 23 points and 4 assists. After the game, Meeks said his teammates “found him in the right spots” and he “found them in the right spots” to be able to score and win this game.
In addition to Meeks, freshman Jamal McKnight chipped in 13 points and 3 assists coming off the bench. “He came in the game hot and kept the intensity up while he was in,” one of his coaches said.
Lastly, senior Villanova commit Malcolm Thomas expressed hope that “this [win] will give us momentum going into conference play this coming Friday.” The Stags play a talented Good Counsel team Friday at 7:30 p.m. With their newfound momentum and the anticipated Christmas-themed crowd, students hope that they can pull off this win.
