As we kick off the fall season Rugby’s 7 on 7 season is coming into play. The team is led by 2nd year head coach Ryan Kivketts and senior captains Liam Donnelly and Shaun Williams-Trahan. Over the past 2 years as coach kivketts under center the team has learned ” discipline and leadership” Liam says In the fall DeMatha won the “Corridor 7s” championship in the fall of 2023 with a 3-1 record and defeated one of the area’s top club teams (the Roosters) in the title game. The team has found a lot of new ways to win under the new head coach.
The Stags are the first team other than the Roosters to win the tournament. The team will play in 4 tournaments of 7 on 7 play which Liam says requires” speed, stamina and better passing. It is a much faster and shorter game than the 15 on 15 spring season”. The stags have been on a up rise in rugby and have been taking the small steps to build a great program
The team is coming off losing 9 starters last year and is moving into more of a rebuilding year have some less experienced players. Shaun says” the team is young but will be fast and flying around the field when the tournaments start”. Coming off tournament wins from last year the team looks to hold that standard and continue to use there athleticism to guide them to victory.
