DeMatha has concluded its annual food drive, and it was a huge success. The goal of this year’s food drive was to collect 13,000 cans. They surpassed that by more than 2,000 cans. By noon Thursday, the final day of the drive, the Campus Ministry Office reported roughly 15,200 cans of food had been donated.
Churches and organizations receiving these donations from DeMatha include St. Jerome’s, St. Mark’s, St. Augustine’s, the Little Sisters of the Poor, Holy Redeemer, and Mary House.
Since the school surpassed its goal, students and staff will have an extra day added to their Thanksgiving break on Monday, December 1, making it a six-day holiday beginning November 27.
Students were glad to hear the news. Sophomore Bryce Dearie said, “I’m excited to be able to sleep in more.” Max Whitsell, another sophomore, said, “Oh yeah, can’t wait.”
This year’s food drive was considered a success by multiple students. Junior Zachary Perlin said, “This year’s food drive was better than the other ones since I started at DeMatha.” This opinion is shared across the board. Mrs. Bright, one of the leaders of the Food Drive, agreed, “This food drive was better and bigger because more students have been participating.”
Well done, Stags!
