The DeMatha Bands and Choir took over Virginia Beach when they performed at the Festivals of Music last week.
On Thursday, April 16 the DeMatha Bands and the Voices of DeMatha drove down to Virginia Beach to perform in the Festivals of Music. They spent the rest of the day exploring the boardwalk and preparing for their performances on Friday.
They woke up early, boarded their buses, and headed off to the festival venue. There, they spent the rest of the time before the show preparing to represent DeMatha.
Sophomore Andrew Stinson plays trombone in the Symphonic Band. “Going on this trip was amazing,” Andrew said. “I got to know a couple friends that I didn’t really know well before.”
The bands and choir performed amazingly and they were presented with quite a few awards. The Advanced Percussion Ensemble was awarded Superior rating 1st place. Sinfonia was awarded Excellent rating 1st place and Symphonic band was awarded Excellent rating 2nd place.
The Wind Ensemble and Voices of DeMatha were awarded Superior rating 1st place along with Overall Concert Band Winner and Overall Chorus Winner, respectively.
Sophomore Daniel Hollar, part of the Wind Ensemble, said “During our [preparation] I was nervous, but when we finished setting up and were about to play I [kind of] knew we were [going to] play well.”
