This past Friday, May 1, was the DeMatha Junior and Senior Prom. It was located at the College Park Marriott Hotel and Conference Center. Students had to arrive by 7:30 p.m. and the dance ended at 11 p.m. Students were served dinner and had several drink and snack options.
The students had a full night of activities between the provided dinner, a photo booth which came with different accessories, photos with a photographer, and of course the dance floor where the DJ was playing music. It was noted a few times that the appearance of Mr. Rodgers on the dance floor was one of the highlights of the nights.
All of these activities do come with a price as tickets to prom were $100 for singles and $200 for couples. “The price was definitely pretty high, like not cheap at all, but I feel like you get a lot out of it so it kinda balances out,” senior Oliver Gorman commented.
One of the photographers for prom was sophomore Jacob Lang. “It was cool being able to see what prom is like and how it works and I’m excited to go the next two years.” Jacob has photographed many different DeMatha events, and he is especially known for his sport shots for baseball, basketball, and lacrosse. “I’m excited to expand my audience and hopefully I can get more opportunities to do shoots like this.”
For seniors, prom is the last big hurrah of their senior year and high school altogether. Many memories are made throughout their four years; too many to count. “I’ll probably miss just seeing everyone every day and the routine of it,” Oliver Gorman said. “The best part about high school was the friendships and memories for sure. It had its ups and downs but I’m glad I went here.”
Prom is one of the final acts for seniors as DeMatha students and this year it was filled with good food, funny and formal photos, and fun memories that will last a lifetime, all paired together to make prom a memory that students will look back on and enjoy.
