As the end of the school year is fast approaching, many students here at DeMatha may be stressing about final exams, which are about a month away. A good way to making sure you do well on the final exam is to begin preparing and studying early.
It is good to start studying sooner than later because you don’t want to have to cram in everything the night before and be awake studying until midnight.
Spanish teacher Mr. Paul Davies always tells his students to “review what they have learned to refresh their memory.”
In a world language course such as Spanish, it is important to build upon what you have learned and to recall old knowledge so you can fully comprehend and be able to use that language.
“Definitely now is the time to start,” says Mr. Davies. “For most classes I would recommend reviewing from the beginning what is going to be covered on the final exam.”
“Spend at least 30 minutes each day for a different class,” he continued. “Make sure you are organized. Break it down into manageable chunks each day. Also get some rest, so you are not tired the day of the exam.”
These are all very good tips for preparing for finals. If you keep your notes organized and in one place, it will be much easier to be able to review all that you have learned from August to May.
Rest is also important, as Mr. Davies stated. If you can barely function to take the final exam, it will be a lot harder to do well than if you had gotten a full night’s sleep.
Sophomore Jimmy Quigley says, “I have a philosophy: ‘If you don’t know it now, you don’t know it then.'”
This is a good point because, unless you start preparing early, your chances of doing well on the final exam will be lower because you won’t be able to recall as much information from the whole year as you possibly can.
So, now that you have some tips and advice to begin your early preparation for finals, hopefully you will put these skills to action. Time to start studying!
