As the spring season continues, members of Dematha’s track and field team are turning their focus toward a major goal: qualifying for outdoor nationals. With tougher competition ahead, athletes are increasing the intensity of their training and pushing for faster times.
Key runners such as Myles Dixon, Larry Jordan, Joshua Virgil, and J.J. Parker have helped lead the team’s effort, setting a competitive tone as the postseason approaches.
Head Coach Nazell Alston said the team has been working to improve in key areas as nationals draws closer. “This team, especially with this 4×400 team, is very special and it is no surprise to why they are the top of the country because they put in a lot of work in practice,” Coach Nazell said. He explained that consistency and effort are critical for athletes trying to reach qualifying times.
Senior runner Myles Dixon said he is especially motivated this season as he prepares for one final push. “I take my training very seriously and I want to win it all this year,” Dixon said. “Knowing it’s my final year here pushes me even more to give everything I’ve got.”
The push for nationals has created a more competitive environment, with athletes encouraging each other to improve. As the season continues, DeMatha’s track team remains determined to turn their preparation into a chance to compete on a national stage.
