The DeMatha Stags varsity football team stormed into the postseason this week after dominating Gonzaga by a final score of 42-14 on Friday. The Stags controlled the game with their defense recording three interceptions in the first half alone. Their offense also shined with senior running back Elijah Lee scoring three touchdowns to lead the charge.
The Stags have a good outlook for the postseason with junior center Cam Black stating, “We are confident going into the postseason because [of] all the work we put into this journey so far, all the time we spent over the summer working and getting better. As a team we have such a family and can’t be broken apart.” Similarly, fellow junior offensive lineman Jared Taylor said, “We are confident that we can go for a two-peat, and based on how much we’ve grown as a team I’m confident we won’t have any problem beating these teams and bringing the trophy home.”
Their confidence is not without evidence as the Stags are currently ranked 15th in the country and remained undefeated throughout the regular season, going 9-0 and outscoring their opponents by 164 points.
The Stags, riding this confidence, hope to carry that momentum into the postseason. Their first opponent will be announced this Sunday after the rest of the WCAC closes out their regular season.
