The Stags finished the season with a record of 5-7-3 after a rough start to the season in which they posted a record of 0-4-2.
Sophomore Chase Harrelson says, “We had some tough moments trying to work together and stay consistent. But as the season went on we started to build chemistry, communicate better, and trust each other more.”
After that slow start to the year, the Stags fought back with three straight wins against conference opponents Paul VI, Ireton, and Ryken. They split the next four before ending the season with a draw against Gonzaga and a loss to Gilman.
Though Harrelson says players “weren’t as focused as we should’ve been” at the start of the season, the strong finish has him and his teammates feeling much better looking back on what they did.
Across their 15 contests, the team averaged 2.4 goals per game while giving up just 1.7 per match, an impressive feat considering they finished with a losing record. Along the way they recorded 5-0 shutouts of both Ireton and St. John’s, a 3-0 shutout of Ryken, and an impressive 8-1 victory over Bishop O’Connell.
“It felt great to see how much we improved as a team and as players,” Harrelson said, looking back on the team’s journey. “This season taught us that focus, teamwork, and hard work really do make a difference.”
