DeMatha started their annual food drive on November 4. We do this food drive every year around the time of Thanksgiving to help people in need.
The goal for this year is 13,000 cans. By the end of the day Tuesday, November 17, the school has collected more than 10,000 cans. This puts our goal within reach but time is running out. The food drive will end on Thursday, November 20. If we hit this goal of 13,000 cans, the school will get Monday, December 1 off.
The main reason for this food drive is to show support to people in need. Thanksgiving is around the corner and some people do not have enough resources to eat this holiday season. This is where DeMatha can step in and help the people enjoy this holiday just as much as we do. The DeMatha community is all about helping our brothers next to us, and we’re also about giving to the people who don’t know when their next meal will be.
“This [food] will go to roughly 700 families,” Mrs. Bright says. The food will be donated to multiple church pantries and organizations in the area.
Junior Princeton Mosley says, “Helping my community helps the people but also puts me in a good spirit.” His classmate Nicholas Norris adds, “Just helping the people who need it the most does me good.”
Churches and organizations receiving donations from DeMatha include St. Jerome’s, St. Mark’s, St. Augustine’s, the Little Sisters of the Poor, Holy Redeemer, and Mary House.
