There are plenty of opportunities to put yourself out there and be social at DeMatha. There are also many ways to achieve excellence, whether in sports, academics, or clubs. The Library Quiz Challenge is one activity that has begun to stand out.
Mr. Austin is DeMatha’s head librarian and runs this event every year. The Library Quiz Challenge began in the 2022-2023 school year through a strong desire to help students improve on global, geographic, and cultural appreciation through critical thinking, comprehension, and problem solving exercises. The DeMatha Parent Organization is the backbone of the LQC, supporting the event yearly.
Mr. Austin says, “The DeMatha Library Quiz Challenge grew from the mission to serve as a valuable addition to the rigorous DeMatha school curriculum.” He adds that the LQC “provides incentives for greater achievements while bolstering student participation and academic excellence.”
Senior Derrick Robinson has participated in the challenge in the past. He appreciates that “the LQC gives students chances to earn house points, earn prizes, and be recognized for their effort.”
