DeMatha Catholic High School is holding its annual DeMatha Experience this month. The Experience, held on Thursday, February 19 and Friday, February 20, will take place during normal school hours. Students will engage in immersive and interactive learning through various activities during this event.
Some activities include various talks, group discussions, and a few fun games, as well. These activities will help students grow in a leadership role, learn what ways they can contribute to the school, and learn important life lessons on how to succeed post-graduation.
Perhaps one of the biggest parts of the DeMatha Experience is course selection for the following school year.
Counselors have been speaking with students about what classes they should expect next year, credit requirements, and any elective classes students might be interested in. Sophomore counselor Mrs. Sarah Stockton says that the best thing about the DeMatha Experience is “building that brotherhood and meeting new students in your class.”
Mrs. Stockton has gone around to a number of the sophomore classes this past week, talking about course selection for next year. For freshmen and many transfers, course selection is very new. Mrs. Stockton says DeMatha’s newer students should “talk to their counselor if they are concerned, talk to their teachers because they know what is best for them, and talk to any upperclassmen who may have suggestions.”
Another aspect of the DeMatha Experience is student and faculty speakers, each of whom are student-elected, who will speak to each class about leadership and how we can come together and grow as a DeMatha community. One of last year’s freshman class speakers, sophomore Alexander Soto, said that the class speakers should be “mentioning how important communities are and what we should do to grow ours.”
The DeMatha Experience is a fun way to learn how to better get involved at DeMatha, to prepare for the future post-graduation, and to grow and strengthen the community here at DeMatha.
