Athletes at DeMatha have been waiting patiently for spring sports to arrive. Baseball, lacrosse, golf, tennis, outdoor track, and rugby are all the spring sports that DeMatha offers. Most notably, the lacrosse, tennis, and rugby teams are looking to bring home trophies again this year while baseball, track, and golf look to improve from last season.
Spring sports athletes around DeMatha are eager to start their seasons underway after practicing in the off-season to get prepared. “I have been practicing in preparation for the season and have been waiting for the season to start. I’m ready to get some rounds in with the boys,” sophomore golfer Gus Haller says.
The lacrosse and tennis teams won the WCAC championships last year. This was the tennis team’s second conference title in three years. The rugby team is coming off of the best season in DeMatha history in which they won the MAVRC championship and went undefeated.
Athletes are also setting goals for the upcoming season and reflecting on their previous experiences. Sophomore baseball player Drew Perlin says, “This season I’m looking to have a winning record, be competitive in every game, and have good team chemistry throughout the season.”
What better way to wrap up the school year? Spring sports around DeMatha symbolize the end of the school year and the warm weather that is approaching.
