Last week the JV baseball team’s season officially started up and they are looking forward to what the season has in store for them.
The season started on Tuesday, March 10 with a closely fought game where the Stags almost came back in the 7th inning against Calvert Hall but lost 5-4. Their next game was a day later against Gonzaga, which they lost 6-4.
The start to the season was quite rough due to the fact that Gonzaga and Calvert Hall are two of the best teams in the area. Sophomore pitcher and outfielder Daniel Hollar said, “We stayed in it in both games, but there was always something missing which caused us to lose.”
After their second game, they have had three rained out games and many canceled practices. Their game on Tuesday, March 17 got canceled due to inclement weather along with their game last Thursday. Sophomore pitcher and catcher Emry Waters noted that “the big gaps in games and practices made the team a little rusty.”
Their next game, as long as the weather holds up, will be on Thursday, March 19 when they will play Bishop Ireton. Hollar said the team needs to “play more like a team instead of separate [individuals]” if they want to stop the losing streak.
