As students and faculty at DeMatha get back into the swing of things after spring break, it is a perfect time to take a look at some of their favorite Easter or spring traditions.
Some people might do Easter egg hunts or have certain foods they like to eat for dinner, but what other traditions do our students and faculty participate in during the Easter season?
Sophomore Erban Kenealy says, “Easter Mass is the obvious one. My parents give me and my siblings Easter baskets with candy.”
Fellow sophomore Xander Liacouras is an alter server in a Greek Orthodox Church and celebrates Easter a week later than most other Christians. He said, “I was at Church from 11:00-3:30 in the morning. All the altar servers have Five Guys afterwards.”
Junior Angelo Lins says, “My family on Easter, instead of having turkey and chicken, we have duck for dinner.” Mmmm…sounds delicious.
Freshman Luke Anthony Quach says, “We would do an Easter egg hunt where my mom would hide eggs for me around the house and there would be prizes at the end.”
Mr. Justin McClain teaches freshman and sophomore theology and his family does a variety of things for Easter and spring. “A springtime tradition that we have is on the first day of spring we go get Rita’s Ice Cream and then we go to the Tree Tunnel, or Daffodil Row, and we go for a walk and look at the flowers and trees.”
“During Easter we go to Mass and reflect on the joy of the Resurrection,” Mr. McClain continued. “We go see Mrs. McClain’s parents in Pennsylvania. We have ham traditionally at Easter as well as some other Easter-type dishes, but primarily ham. We find an Easter egg opportunity for the kids.”
Those sound like some fun and intriguing traditions! If you would like to share an Easter or springtime tradition of your own, please leave a comment. Happy Easter!
